Chris McDaniel First Sen. Candidate With Tea Party Express Endorsement

Chris McDaniel

Mississippi State Senator Chris McDaniel is now the first candidate to be endorsed by the Tea Party Express. The California based group visited the Mississippi capital Tuesday to deliver their endorsement.

According to the Jackson Free Press,?Amy Kremer, chairwoman of the Tea Party Express, compared McDaniel to congressional Tea Party favorites Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, and Mike Lee of Utah. McDaniel will help the Tea Party ?break up the “good old boy network? of entrenched Republicans such as Cochran, thus ?sanitizing the U.S. government,? ?Kremer stated.

She also added that Mr. McDaniel who recently was in the news due to speaking to the neo confederate group?Sons of Confederate Veterans ?is a “true constitutional conservative? who ?believes in state’s rights.”

McDaniel is running for the seat currently held by Thad Cochran a senior senator who has been in office since 1978. Mr. Cochran has been responsible for bringing ?millions in federal money to the state in the form of earmarks. McDaniel was sure to vaguely reference this in his first campaign ad (see below) where he calls Mississippi a “welfare state” for accepting federal funds.?Kremer said:

We believe if you want to effect change you have to change the players.

This race exemplifies the battle that is ongoing in the Republican party between the traditional moderate base and the ultra right wing represented by the Tea Party. The Tea Party sees every battle, every issue as black or white, win or lose, ?there is no gray area and no compromise. There is also no room in their take over for the old guard who may be open to negotiation, agreements, or meeting in the middle. ?Their fight is with fellow members of the GOP first and Democrats second.?Kremer remarked:

They waved the white flag of surrender when they reopened the government instead of defunding the Affordable Care Act. It’s time for (Cochran) to retire.
