On the April 29 edition of his show, Glenn Beck proclaimed?that “Hillary Clinton will be having sex with a woman on the White House desk if it becomes popular.”
The supposed impetus of Beck’s distasteful?comment was Hillary’s announcement last year that she was in favor of same-sex marriage, a position her opponents said she disingenuously adopted to improve her chances of obtaining the Democratic nomination in 2016.
What Beck and his guest hosts don’t seem to realize is that it’s possible — quite common, in fact — for straight people to approve of same-sex marriage. One does not need to go “full lesbian” to support the LGBT community.?Even if Hillary were pandering to gays and lesbians simply for political gain, as Beck seems to suggest, she would still be in?a?better position to win not only the nomination but the general election over?any of the anti-gay conservative politicians such as Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul.
A?majority of Americans now approve of same-sex marriage, in every age demographic and region, including the South. Within a generation or two, political ideologues such as Beck who cling like cowards to their bygone attitudes?regarding sexuality and marriage inequality will?be nothing more than shameful stains upon our nation’s history. All we can do is wait for them to become relics and then bury their hateful memories so deeply in the public consciousness that no one can exhume them ever again.
