The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation said in 2013 that there are three myths that block progress for the poor.
- Poor people are meant to stay poor.
- Foreign aid is a big waste.
- Saving lives leads to overpopulation.
These things are simply not true. Child mortality has been cut in half, and as Bill Nye the Science Guy says, we “have the opportunity to leave the world a better place.”
The fact is, the U.S. spends very little on foreign aid. Another fact: preventable diseases kill 83 percent of children who die every year.
