Brandy Melville: That Cute Outfit Is Killing Your Daughter

It’s not the most fascinating thing you will watch on YouTube, but if you have a daughter the following videos represent a real threat to your child.

The video claims to be “backstage” at an exclusive photo shoot for Brandy Melville. The next clip is from a second “lifestyle” photo shoot for the same company:

Who, you may be asking, is Brandy Melville, and why should I care if my daughter watches these videos?

Brandy Melville is the newest and fastest growing brand for teen girls in the United States. It is also the latest “brand” to cater to, and encourage, eating disorders to achieve “the look.” ?The company carries a range of sizes as long as you consider Double 00 (zero zero) to two (2) a range. When being interviewed by Yahoo Finance, Jessy Longo, ?the store manager who opened the first Brandy store in the US had this to say:

“We offer such a variety of clothing. I would love for everybody to shop at Brandy? We can satisfy almost everybody, but not everybody. The one size fits most clothing might turn-off somebody if they don’t walk into the store, but if you walk in you’ll find something even if it’s a bag.?

The translation of the above statement is that Brandy Melville can fit all the right, mostly white, people but not everybody can be the right white people with the right Brandyrexia sized body. But don’t worry social outcasts! You can buy social acceptance with the purchase of a handbag or scarf or something. Just not their clothes. But do please buy into the tall, white, skinny, blonde myth so you can feel even worse about yourself while carrying their bag or “something.” Just don’t stretch out their clothes while trying them on.?Trisha Paytas, a would- be customer, said of her experience at the store:

I didn’t get 10 seconds into the store when I was told ‘I would not fit anything’ and that I wasn’t allowed to try anything on because ‘I would stretch the clothes out.'”

The chain of stores is now ranked number one in the class of brands that teen girls are buying and want to buy. This is mostly due to their online sales, which have taken off due to their use of social media.

Business Insider put it this way:

The company’s recent rise has been helped by its popular Instagram account, which has more than two million followers and mainly features the same group of ultra-skinny, long-haired white girls posing in the brand’s clothes.

After taking a look at their Instagram pictures, it makes you think about some troubling realities. ?Girls in America age six to twelve, at rates of anywhere from forty to sixty percent (the rates go up as girls get older) begin to worry about their weight and body shape. Many are more afraid of getting fat than of dying! Yet we continue to allow the “free market” to propagandize girls into hating themselves. Then we wonder, years later, why women, especially white women, will vote against their own best interests. It’s because we have taught them from the crib to hate themselves.

It seems we are destined to lose yet another generation of young women to eating disorders, self hatred for not having “the right” body type, and racism. Yes, some girls are small framed but looking at the pictures from their Instagram account, there are some painfully thin legs and arms on display. If Abercrombie and Fitch caught public dismay over only going up to size ten then why are we tolerating this?

If there is a teen in your life talk to them about this brand and ask them not to “fit in” to this dangerous apparel.
