How A Feminist Group Denied Male Membership And Claimed They Are Fighting Against Sexism

Before I come up to the point, let me introduce myself as a radical male feminist from India, which is the epitome?of a patriarchal society. Women’s issues in our country make headlines throughout the globe, and thus we have been trying to work towards the issue.

I had/have a lot of pride in contributing towards the feminist revolution and strongly believe that this revolution is incomplete until?men are involved in it. How can one improve upon the society when half of the population is isolated from the movement? Thus, in order to help with liberalization of women, I started my own feminist?blog and started looking for feminist groups so I could join them, interact with the global feminist society, and make our own initiative better.

And thus I came across this group and it’s shocking statement:

“MEN ARE NO LONGER BEING ADDED TO THIS GROUP.”

dis

And they claim that they fight against sexism.

Why should men be included in feminist groups?

Simple reason. We (men) need to know what feminists need from us so we can deliver it. When they say the society is patriarchal or is oppressing?women or needs to be changed, a very interesting question arises: What does this term ‘society’ refer to? It’s half women who want the change and half men who need to assist. So, cutting the other half or making it anti can never help achieve the desired goal. Acts like the one shown in the image above might lead to men misunderstanding the movement or even fighting against it. For those who argue that maybe they wanted to create a “women only” forum need to understand that the group was not a women’s discussion group since they named it “feminism,” which as much our right as any woman’s.

Whether men should be allowed in feminist groups or not is a debatable topic, but bringing the issue to public view was a concern.
