Kirk Cameron Couldn’t Save Christmas After All

Did you check out?Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas, the feel-good holiday film of the year? ?If you haven’t, you’re apparently not missing much.

November 14 was the debut of Kirk Cameron’s movie, which depicts the former child star?trying to prove to his brother-in-law that Christmas is a biblical holiday. ?Several elements of the holiday that are historically attributed to the Pagan Solstice celebration are…reinterpreted to be of Christian origin. Cameron’s mission is to “put Christ back in Christmas,” (an idiom we’ve heard many times over the years as the fictional war on Christmas continues to enrage Fox News and their viewers) by rewriting history and spreading misinformation (Hm, I wonder if he’s been talking to the Texas State Board of Education). He went to every length to promote the movie, from posting on Facebook ad nauseum, to creating a brand of coffee patterned after the movie. (That was not a joke.) Despite this, Cameron’s movie clearly did not have the effect for which he’d hoped.

Rotten Tomatoes currently has a 0% freshness rating for the movie. Zero. Percent. This literally?makes Cameron’s movie one of?the lowest rated movies in the site’s history. In response,?Cameron went to Facebook to motivate his fans to leave positive reviews and “storm the gates” of Rotten Tomatoes:

“Send the message to all the critics that WE decide what movies we want our families to see! If 2,000 of you (out of almost 2 million on this page) take a minute to rate Saving Christmas, it will give the film a huge boost and more will see it as a result!”

If we ignore the fact that the freshness rating is only affected by reviews from professional critics, Cameron’s movie has a 33%?audience score. For the record, that’s still a flunking grade. Cameron fared no better on IMDb; Saving Christmas is currently the?lowest rated film on the site. And by a pretty significant margin, too.

Saving Christmas rating
Think of the worst movie you’ve ever seen. Saving Christmas is worse.
Screencap from IMDb Bottom 100.

The best part is that?the push for better reviews really resulted in?worse reviews. And honestly, most of the reviews are far more entertaining than the movie could ever hope to be:

At my theater, nobody laughed, and nobody stayed for the end credits. This purported comedy film fails at every level. If you’re really looking for a laugh, go back and take a look at what Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort have to say about the glorious design of the banana. -IMDb user vulpix

The only thing that would have “saved” this movie would for it to have been a snuff film. Gave it a half star for serving as further evidence supporting the people’s case that Kirk Cameron is certifiably insane. -Rotten Tomatoes user Private U

This movie is why a 0 star rating should be implemented on this site. –IMDb user batboyexe

Every so often, a movie comes along that reminds us why drinking games were invented. This is that movie. -IMDb user Jim Longo

An apology is needed to dumpster fires everywhere –Rotten Tomatoes user Mike D.

So yes, Kirk Cameron has succeeded in creating?the worst movie in history. Worse than?Batman and Robin. Worse than?Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2. Worse than? The Last Airbender. Worse than?any move you have ever seen. And while Cameron will likely try to spin this off as anti-Christian sentiment, he’ll inevitably forget two things: first, even Christians don’t like the movie. Secondly,?several other Christian films?have done far better than this “dumpster fire.”
