Man Viciously Punches $12M Monet Painting, Gets 5 Years In Jail

When Andrew Shannon put his fist through a whopping $12m Monet painting at the National Gallery Ireland two years ago, he had a mission, a sole mission at that. Shannon, wanted to ‘get back’ at the state for wrecking ?Argenteuil Basin with a Single Sailboat. However, it now looks like his antics may have cost him much more than he bargained for.

A 140-year-old Monet painting, actually the painting in question, said to be worth nearly $10m.

After a swift jury deliberation Tuesday afternoon, Shannon was found guilty after 90 minutes of deliberation. He must steer clear of art galleries for 15 months following his 5-year stint in jail.

Metro notes that while Shannon’s original plan was to ‘get back at the state’ he dramatically changed his tune during deliberations, in which he was forced to face his peers. During the deliberations, he failed to live up to the new claims that he had ‘felt faint’ and?fell through the Monet painting.
