One idiot to rule them all. One idiot to find them. Not all those who wander are lost. Those are the words (and paraphrases of the words) of the late, great writer J.R.R. Tolkien, author of the timeless “Lord Of The Rings” trilogy. However, all those who interpret a small child’s imagination as a legitimate threat could be aptly described by those phrases, too, and are most certainly idiots themselves.
Nine-year-old Aiden Steward was suspended from Kermit Elementary School in Kermit, Texas for pretending he had “one ring? to rule them all” and apparently to make a classmate disappear. Did the school overreact? Well, his father and those of us with common sense seem to think so. Says father Jason Steward:
?I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.“
School officials have no comment at this time. Not surprising, since one does not simply take responsibility for idiocy.
Furthermore, according to the parents this isn’t the first time the school overreacted. Aiden was also suspended for bringing “The Big Book of Knowledge.” His father stated:
“He loves that book. They were studying the solar system and he took it to school. He thought his teacher would be impressed”
However, the teacher found out there was a section on human pregnancy and that lead to Aiden being?suspended. Factual information on pregnancy?!Won’t someone please think of the children?
I understand in this day in age that schools need to be extra cautious with threats of violence. However, this is ridiculous. This is not a left or right issue. This is a common sense issue, and Kermit Elementary has clearly dropped their common sense in the Mt. Doom volcano of Mordor a long time ago.
Kermit Elementary, you are the Lord of the Idiots. You have earned the dubious honor of Idiot of the Day.
