Swinger’s Club In Tennessee May Open As Church To Skirt Zoning Restrictions

When at first you don’t succeed, try try again, the old saying goes. Well, some developers in Madison, Tennessee, have certainly taken that axiom to heart when it comes to building a swinger’s club in one of the most conservative states in the South.

The local city council thought they had taken care of the issue when they passed a zoning ordinance banning sex clubs from being located near a Christian school. The proposed location of the new club was adjacent to Goodpasture Christian School.

The swinger’s club developers, however, found a loophole in the zoning ordinance which would still allow them to open the controversial club as long as they call it a church.

Residents of Madison, along with supporters of the Christian school, say they are frustrated with their efforts to put an end to the opening of the club.?Ricky Perry, president of Goodpasture Christian School, remarked:

“That, to me, in many ways just seems to be irreverent. And it just seems like there’s nothing you wouldn’t stoop to to try to accomplish what you’re trying to do.”

Goodpasture Christian School, by the way, is located right next door to the building which would house the club/church.

Developers of the swinger’s club have already relabeled what was once called “the dungeon” into a “choir room” and the former “game room” will now be officially known as a “fellowship hall.”

Perry added that it seems to him like the club’s developers are bound and determined to get their way:

“It’s obvious to me that all they’re trying to do is find another way to legally, or through some loophole, accomplish what they want to do.”

The city council has given their permission to renovating the disputed location as a church, but the new owners will have to prove that actual worship is taking place before they will be allowed to open.

The whole situation definitely gives a whole new meaning to “kneeling at the altar to pray.”
