WTF! Fox Talk Show Bans Muslim Audience Members From Wearing Headscarves

Female audience members who showed up recently to be a part of the audience at Fox’s “The Real” daytime talk show were shocked when they were told they had to remove their hijab (headscarves) as part of the show’s “hijab ban.” The women were informed they would be placed in seats out of camera view if they refused to comply.

According to a complaint the women have filed with?California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing against Warner Bros., as they were waiting to be seated in the audience:

?While waiting to enter the taping, studio officials told the women that the hijab-wearing women could not sit in the front row because they should not be seen on camera in accordance with studio policy. They complied with the request.?

An attorney with the?Council of American-Islamic Relations LA (CAIR-LA),?Fatima Dadabhoy, remarked:

?Warner Bros. has no legal justification for removing the hijab-wearing women from the camera’s view. No studio should maintain such a discriminatory policy that prohibits people wearing religious head coverings from being seen in its studio audiences. It’s especially baffling that this particular show would want to hide their visibly-Muslim viewers, when the show purports to cater to a wide-ranging audience with its diverse cast.?

“The Real” is co-hosted ?African American, Asian, and Latina women. On the show’s web site, one of the hosts,?Tamera Mowry even goes so far as to proudly state:

?The greatest thing about America is its diversity and this show reflects that diversity. No matter who you are, there is someone at this table that will be speaking for you.?

Sure, unless you happen to be a Muslim-American woman who wears a headscarf. And then you can sit in the back of the studio.

Online reaction to how the women were treated has been mixed. One poster to the web site “Hollywood Life” wrote:

While another seemed hopelessly stuck in the past:

Ah yes, let’s blame every Muslim on the face of the Earth for what a few have done in the cause of perverting a religion of peace.

But I wonder how loudly the pinheads at Fox News would be shouting right now if the same thing had happened to Christian women wearing necklaces with crosses on them.

Something tells me you’d be able to hear them howl from New York to Los Angeles.
