Eighteen climbers are dead and dozens more wounded after being hit by an avalanche following the massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday. More than 200 hikers were at the Mt. Everest base camp when the earthquake hit, one of whom made a video of the horrifying ordeal.
Jost Kobusch, of Germany, said of the avalanche:
?The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives.?
At the start of the video, made by Kobusch at the Mt. Everest base camp, someone can be heard saying “the ground is shaking,” while others laugh in the background. The laughter soon turns to horror and screams as the mountaineers realize that a massive avalanche is heading their way.
