This Dentist May Be The Dentist of Your Worst Nightmares

Who fears the dentist? My mom does. After reading something like this, you won’t blame her or these angry parents.

What started out as a Facebook page to share stories about the bad experiences at Dr. Howard Schneider’s dental practice has grown and ignited a firestorm of angry parents?and a local movement in Jacksonville, Florida.

Renee Frisch’s daughter had multiple bad experiences with Dr. Schneider and now fears the dentist according to her mother.

“Every single tooth that he worked on, I had to get redone. She’s terrified of the dentist. She’s extremely afraid. He said she had cavities so he filled them up. A couple days later she was complaining that they hurt. I took her back in. The cavities got infected.”

Parents also allege their children are leaving the practice bruised and swollen and?they aren’t?asked for consent for procedures. News4Jax:

“… Another mother April Smith, has pictures of her 7-year-old son who she said left the dentist swollen and bruised with busted blood vessels. She said her son was only supposed to receive a filling and a spacer.”

Smith:

“The dentist came out and handed me a bag of several teeth and told me he did multiple fillings. He put in spacers and I was just completely shocked that, why would you do that much work without saying something first?”

Former patients from years ago are also coming out. On the Facebook event page?”Protest Against Dr. Howard Schneider,” stories are being shared.?There is also a closed Facebook group for parents.

Melissa Smith:

“I took my three kids there. My daughter wound up with a giant hole in her lip after having a tooth uncovered. She is terrified to go to the dentist now and had to have oral surgery and tissue reconstruction.”

Shawn Ethridge-King:

“It’s a hellhole. I’ve heard people call it a torture chamber… For all intents and purposes, that’s what it can be… Physically I’ve healed. Psychologically, you don’t heal.”

News4Jax did speak with Dr. Schneider who told them he had been in practice for 50 years and he always gets the consent of parents before any procedure. He said the accusations are untrue and he does not plan on closing down.

On Tuesday, protesters stood outside the practice protesting and one mother even attacked Dr. Schneider outside his office. An employee of the office broke the fight up and?directed Dr. Schneider back inside his office.

I can’t say whether Dr. Schneider is innocent or guilty. I’ve never been a patient (don’t plan on it either). However, with so many stories that do coincide with each other, it’s hard to believe these are parents overreacting. I also?believe most?mothers who have seen their child hurt will go into attack mode. When looking at pictures, I do believe something is up, however.?My sister had extensive dental work as a child, and she never looked like this.

Knowing that my mother had terrible dental experiences as a child (he didn’t believe in numbing agents), I know?just how traumatizing a dental experience can?be, especially after my mother went to the dentist for the first time in years last year. It was not an easy experience for anyone involved, and she says she’ll never go back again.

So, I’d really like to see?the end results of?whatever an investigation may find.
