She officially ruled his death a homicide. She stated that cuffing him at his hands and legs without seat belting him violated police procedure. She also noted how they failed to give Mr. Gray the proper medical attention that he should have received. For example, he had been placed on his belly saying he couldn’t breathe, yet he didn’t receive help.

One officer is charged with second degree murder. Other charges include manslaughter, assault, negligent homicide, and misconduct. Warrants have been issued for the arrests of the involved officers.

Mosby kept showing how she had her own team on this case and wanted to get independent evidence regarding the Freddie Gray death.

Reports have said that the fatal injury to Mr. Gray was due to his head being hit in the van which he was being transported by.

Cheers erupted as Mosby announced charges for the officers involved. Much of Baltimore and the nation have been demanding accountability in Mr. Gray’s death and getting these officers charged is a huge step towards justice.

Of course, the police union of Baltimore says none of the officers involved are responsible, per MSNBC live news coverage.

According to MSNBC, Mosby is the youngest state attorney for any major U.S. city. She is a woman of color and comes from a family of officers. She has said that this doesn’t show that every police officer is bad, but it is clear that she is willing to confront incidents of improper behavior and injustice.

I, personally, am happy to see these officers charged because protecting life should be a big goal of law enforcement, and the Gray killing shows that they had no care for his life at all. However, we have to keep the pressure on because these officers still have not been convicted. There is still a high probability that these officers will not be convicted. Furthermore, we have to keep pushing to create change so that people aren’t killed in the first place by the police.
