Sylvia Ann Driskell, a woman from Nebraska, has filed a lawsuit and will be representing herself and serving as “ambassador” for the Christian god and Jesus Christ in the case of Driskell v. Homosexuals.
Driskell filed a handwritten lawsuit against all homosexuals (the exact scope was not defined) with the District Court of Nebraska on Friday, May 1 (though it was originally dated for the day prior). In the lawsuit, she states that homosexuals are destroying the morals of the United States; this action, she contends, is a fast and reliable way to destroy the country completely.
I had to do a double take when I saw Patheos’ report. The complete absurdity of the lawsuit’s premise aside, the manner in which the lawsuit is presented clearly casts doubt upon this woman’s education and understanding of the world. To start, her grammar is positively atrocious:
The way to destroy any Nation, or State is to destroy its morals; Look what happen to Sodom and Gomorrah two city because of the same immoral behavior thats present in Our Nation, in Our States, and our Cities, God destroy them. [sic]
As mentioned above, the entire lawsuit is handwritten on notebook paper, not typed. Also, her logic is questionable at best:
I, Sylvia Ann Driskell, Contend that homosexuality is a sin, and that they the homosexuals know it is a sin to live a life of homosexuality. Why else would they have been hiding in a closet. [sic]
I won’t quote the entire lawsuit here, but many of the sections start with phrases like “God tells his children,” and other phrases directly quoting the Bible as her basis for the lawsuit. Clearly, no one has told her that the Bible is not the basis for American law.
Will all the judges of this Nation, judge God to be a lier? [sic]
It has yet to be announced who will be representing all of the country’s homosexuals in court for this lawsuit. I vote for Bianca Del Rio myself.
Judge John Gerrard dismissed the case prior to a hearing, stating “A federal court is not a forum for debate or discourse on theological matters.” He also stated that she can not sue “a class of unidentified defendants” according to Omaha.com. The judge is not permitting Driskell to amend her lawsuit.
