Many Americans recall being assigned Harper Lee’s classic novel, ?To Kill a Mockingbird? (TKMB), while studying English in junior or senior high school. This adored classic tale takes place in Maycomb, Alabama and follows a series of events in the life of a young girl by the name of Scout, the daughter of revered lawyer Atticus Finch.
Of course, many of us fell even more in love with Finch after he was portrayed by Gregory Peck in the 1962 film adaptation of the novel.
The long-cherished American classic is Lee’s only published novel to date. However, on Tuesday, July 14th, the second novel depicting our darling Finch family will be released, and is said to recall Scout’s musings about her father being a type of ?watchman? for Maycomb.
The novel, titled ?Go Set a Watchman,? is to be released 55 years after TKMB, and is feverishly anticipated by readers across the country.
To further fuel this excitement, it was announced on Friday, July 10, that the first chapter of the novel had been released online.
If you are like me and have been anticipating this release since first hearing the news, and longing to read more about the small town we fell in love with many moons ago, you’ll burn through this new chapter in one sitting, and it’ll leave you longing for more.
You can read the first chapter here.
