During a ground stop Tuesday at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport, a man with a cell phone noticed that a storm which had forced the ground stop contained some awesome lightning.
Within moments, the man had an incredible video which he uploaded to YouTube. In it, lightning strikes the fuselage of a plane for an amazing image.
No one on the plane was harmed, and neither was the plane. According to the official blog of Finnair, a Finnish airline:
“A lightning strike on an aircraft is neither rare nor dangerous.”
The blog also states that the fuselage of most commercial jets is built to act as a Faraday Cage, deflecting the lightning strike away from the sensitive electronics and passengers inside the tube.
