Bedside Reading For Donald Trump–A Book Of Speeches By Adolf Hitler

Donald Trump is fond of saying that his favorite book is the Bible, with his own book, The Art of the Deal, being a close second. So now we will have to wait and see where on the book pecking order he places My New Order, a collection of Hitler’s speeches which an ex-wife says he had on his bedside table for years.

In a profile of Trump done by Vanity Fair 25 years ago, there is this account:

“Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler’s speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

‘Did your cousin John give you the Hitler speeches?’ I asked Trump.

Trump hesitated. ‘Who told you that?’

‘I don’t remember,’ I said.

‘Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he’s a Jew.'”

Yet when Marty Davis was asked about the book he gave Trump, he remarked:

“I did give him a book about Hitler. But it was My New Order, Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I’m not Jewish.”

All of this is doubly interesting in light of the rally Trump held in Birmingham this week. During that rally, a man sitting in the crowd directly behind the Donald began chanting:

“White power! White power!”

Also, while Trump may like to claim that he loves black people and he will win their votes in 2016, he has also said:

“Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”

Good thing Trump isn’t fond of perpetuating stereotypes.

And some of the far right loonies who are currently so smitten with the Donald certainly seem to think Trump is on their side. As one person noted on the website Stormfront:

“Imagine Trump tries to close the border and deport. Then the courts block him. Then he orders law enforcement to act anyway under presidential protection. This is an entirely possible scenario.

“It’s also possible that just as Blacks saw Obama as a blanket mandate to riot and burn, marginalized White people might get funny ideas too under a Trump presidency. I think you will find White law enforcement and military highly disinclined to do anything as pro White street actions begin re-modelling large sections of our country.

“But first he has to win.”

A friend of mine recently asked what I thought of Trump, and I wasted no time in replying that I find him to be the most divisive and dangerous political figure since George Wallace ran for President in 1968.

He grows more dangerous with each passing day and with each point he gains in the polls.
