Christian Bus Driver Says He Will Refuse To Drive Rainbow Bus

Calgary’s annual Pride Festival kicks off today, and in celebration Calgary Transit has painted a bus in rainbow colors. But one bus driver, citing his strong “Christian” beliefs, says that he will refuse to drive the rainbow bus, even if it means losing his job.

Jesse Rau has been driving for Calgary Transit for a year, but he told Canada’s CTV network:

“I’m concerned that if I say that this bus is against my beliefs that I might not have a job. I’m a Christian so, as a Christian, there are things like homosexuality that I just can’t condone. Unfortunately, we live in a culture where if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, the accusation is that you hate the person.”

Dude, it’s a freaking bus! Just because you drive it doesn’t mean you agree with that it represents. It does not mean that you “condone” something simply because you’re doing your job.

Rau added that if he should happen to be assigned as the driver of the rainbow bus, he will immediately go to the dispatcher and ask to be the driver of a different bus.

Does Rau not know that the rainbow is actually a symbol from the Bible? Or is he like so many on the far right who cling to the Bible but don’t bother to open the cover of one and discover what’s inside?

Take a look at Genesis 9:12-16, which states:

“And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.'”

You see anything about homosexuality there? Neither do I.

Brother Rau might want to reconsider his stupid objection and just do his job. If not, I’m sure there are plenty of people who would be more than happy to take his place.
