Daniel Handler, popularly known as “A Series of Unfortunate Events” author Lemony Snicket, has come out firmly in support of Planned Parenthood, and has put his money where his mouth is.

The popular children’s author and his wife, illustrator Lisa Brown, made a donation of $1 Million to the women’s health provider. This announcement comes on the heels of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerburg having donated almost one billion dollars to Planned Parenthood. Zuckerburg and his wife Priscilla have recently announced a healthy pregnancy after several miscarriages, so the discussion around women’s health has a personal connection for them.

Planned Parenthood has recently been under fire by Republicans with an axe to grind, even going so far as to threaten a government shutdown over defunding Planned Parenthood. As you probably know, a mere 3% (non-taxpayer-funded) of PP’s services are abortions, and the rest is essential women’s healthcare for women who may not be able to afford private healthcare.

Recent Planned Parenthood news has been positive, with Cecile Richards speaking before the House Oversight Committee, and with critical thinkers everywhere rejecting the idea that PP sells fetal tissue for profit.

Handler (Snicket to his fan base) has tweeted his decision, stating that “good fortune should be shared with noble causes.”

Handler’s charitable donation will result in the improvement of many women’s fortunes around the United States.
