Why did it take me a year to find this song? Especially since the musician/folk-singer responsible for this gem, Todd Snider, lives 20 minutes away. East Nashville to be more specific. Either way, it was well worth the wait once I heard him sing “Conservative Christian, Right Wing, Republican, Straight, White, American Male.” With today’s political climate, it’s amazing that this song has not become the anthem for many Liberals.
As most of us know, Liberals come in all races, religions, and backgrounds. With this song though, Todd Snider seems to sum up most of the important things that Liberals stand for. If you are a Conservative Christian, this song may not be for you. For Liberals that would love a funny, yet on the mark, comeback when faced with a Conservative Christian troll, this would be it.
At a Live at Farm Aid event Sept. 13, 2014, Snider took the stage in Raleigh, NC and said:
“I like to let people know, because I’m a folk-singer, I like to let people know before I go too far into my portion of the program, that I’m going to be sharing some of my opinions with you over my course of the program, portion of the program. And so, I like to let people know before I do that, that I’m not going to be sharing my opinions with you because I think that they are smart, or because I think that people need to know them. I’m going to share them because they rhyme. I didn’t come down here to change anybody’s mind about anything. I come down here every time to ease my own mind about everything. And it always works.”
