Taylor Swift is not taking anything off of a Denver DJ known as DJ David “Jackson” Mueller. He started the problem when he allegedly assaulted her, and Swift filed charges. The KYGO radio station canned Mueller, so he sued the singer, claiming he was unjustly fired.

Swift said the original incident occurred during a photo-op before a June 2013 concert for 13,000 fans. Her counter-lawsuit claims Mueller:

“…intentionally reached under her skirt, and groped with his hand an intimate part of her body in an inappropriate matter, against her will, and without her permission.”

Immediately following the incident, Swift notified security and her tour manager, then she went on to perform. After Mueller sued her, Swift filed a counterclaim against Mueller. It claims:

“Ms. Swift knows exactly who committed the assault — it was Mueller.”

Swift is filing the lawsuit so that she can be an example to others: According to the filing, Swifts wants to:

“…serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.”

The singer intends to donate any monies she might win to charitable nonprofits whose message is “dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard.”

Swift said that no one had ever groped her before, even after thousands of concerts. Like so many women before her, the singer was distraught over Mueller’s totally inappropriate actions. Not only is she seeking damages and costs, she demands a jury trial to bring attention to the matter.

So many incidents of sexual abuse slip silently into the past, but they are not forgotten. The emotions still snip at the corners of our consciousness and claim fragments of our energy. Good for Swift! We need more role models like her.
