The Flint River, Governor Snyder, And Michael Moore – Pure Michigan

With the on-going problems in Flint, Michigan revolving around the poisoned water, video producer John Kerfoot has made a Pure Michigan spoof video that highlights the water issues in Flint and the switch to using the Flint River as the primary source for water in Flint, Michigan.

The video was produced before the lead poisoning broke the surface of news coverage and the city was forced to return to getting water from Detroit Water and Sewage Department (DWSD). Perhaps he will modify it to include that at a later time.

Kerfoot has been producing spoof videos based on the Pure Michigan tourism campaign for years. Most of them are pure gold and often not safe for work (NSFW). My personal favorite is the Pure Michigan – Mackinac Island video. On my list of must-watch videos is the Pure Michigan – Winter Virgins and Pure Michigan – Snow Days. There are videos about football, our colleges, some of our cities, and of course, our tourist attractions.

Although the poisoning of 100,000 citizens is not funny in the slightest, I think that Kerfoot’s video drives the point home that the whole switch to using the Flint River was just not a good idea any way you look at it. The name of his website says it all – Not So Pure Michigan.

Governor Snyder has touted the Pure Michigan tourism campaign and poured tons of state money (YOUR money) into this campaign to increase tourism – but at what cost? And has it worked? Most would say it has been a waste of money as tourism has not really improved.

All of Kerfoot’s videos are viewable on his YouTube profile. They are also accessible from his website. You can also visit and ‘like’ Kerfoot’s official page on Facebook.
