To me, a Donald Trump rally is at times a bit reminiscent of a Nuremberg rally circa the 1930s. And that was proven yet again last night in South Carolina.
When a protester in the audience began shouting at Trump, some of his thuggish supporters decided to tackle the man and forcibly remove him from the room. Trump thought that was fantastic, commenting:
“That was so great. Who was the person who did that? Put up your hand, put up your hand. Bring that person up here. I love that.”
Two men then went to the stage, one of whom said he was a veteran and stepped to the microphone, where the man who claimed to be an Iraq war veteran declared:
“USA! USA! USA!”
“If it wasn’t for Mr. Trump right here, I don’t think any of us would have the voice that we have. This is the only man that’s going to really bring America back. We need you.”
The second man then announced:
“Do not let them intimidate you! We need to get some fresh blood up there, some fresh thinking. Donald Trump, you’re the best we’ve got by far!”
If indeed Donald Trump is the best we have in this country, then the United States is in bigger trouble than we could have ever imagined. How exactly is a lying, blowhard, predatory businessman who would steal the last dime from a starving widow even qualified to stand on a stage and tell others what they and the rest of us need?
For his part, Trump then tried to pretend he was touched, telling the rapt crowd that the protesters who come to his events have mental problems:
“A lot of them have bad thoughts beyond…I’m telling you, there’s something going on.”
There sure is. And it has the look, feel, smell, and taste of fascism.
