That Time When Donald Trump Got Called An Anchor Baby Cuz Of His Immigrant Mom

Donald Trump, the business mogul and presidential candidate, is no stranger to controversy. Over the years he’s been embroiled in many, and his race for the presidential candidacy is no different. Now, some are wondering if Donald Trump is even a viable, legal presidential candidate.

The Donald, as the media dubbed him years ago, has raised issue with President Obama’s refusal to produce a birth certificate. Trump has argued that it is possible that Obama’s presidency has been illegal, suggesting the current president was not born on United States Soil.

Those for Obama and the democratic party have raised similar questions about Trump, some going as far as calling him an “anchor baby”. “Anchor baby” is a derogatory term used to describe children who are born in the United States to illegal or immigrant parents. The term derives from the assertion that people come to the United States to have children because those children are automatically natural-born citizens, regardless of their parents’ country of origin.

So, why is trump being called an “anchor baby”? Simply put, Trump’s mother, a philanthropist, was of Scottish descent. She was born in Scotland and later emigrated to the United States. After Trump’s rants about Obama and his potential citizenship status, people have called out Trump.

Trump’s father was born in the United States, as was Donald Trump. Those seeking more information, however, have called into issue whether or not Donald Trump’s mother was a naturalized citizen at the time of his birth.

Some have argued that the constitution does not adequately denote what a natural-born citizen actually is. Some argue that such citizenship can only be derived if both parents are United States citizens at the time of the child’s birth. Other’s argue that any child born on United States soil are considered natural-born citizens.

People have raised the same question about Trump, alleging that his mother’s status at the time of his birth could directly impact whether or not he’s a natural-born citizen. When all has been said and done, and the truth has been dug up, it appears that he is, in fact, a citizen no matter your definition.

While some would like to deem him an “anchor baby”, Trump isn’t an “anchor baby”, at all. Trump’s parents married prior to his birth, and his mother became a naturalized citizen in March of 1942, several years prior to Donald Trump’s birth.
