Another Romney Run? After Bashing Trump, He Quietly Reactivated His Campaign Committees

Well, what do you know, look who could be showing up to save the day?

New information is surfacing about Mitt Romney and his 2016 plans following the 2012 presidential candidate’s nationally-covered speech on Thursday morning. It looks like he could be jumping in to rescue the Republican party from the slightly more evil hands of Donald J. Trump.

The former Massachusetts Governor and Republican nominee for President spoke out against Donald Trump, calling the Republican front-runner a “phony” and “fraud”, among other things.  He pleaded with Republicans to unite behind another candidate, yet refused to endorse any one candidate in particular.

In late January and early February of 2016, Romney’s campaign finance entities, which by law are subject to FEC regulations, were both reactivated with amended campaign statements.

FEC records indicate that Romney’s former campaign committee, Romney for President, and Romney’s affiliated PAC, Romney Victory Fund, were both reactivated earlier this year, making them legally able to solicit donations and organize for his presidential campaign. The submitted forms can be found here.

This bombshell comes in light of Romney’s scathing attack on Trump on March 3 at the University of Utah. Romney went on a near 20 minute tirade cutting deep into why Donald Trump should not be the GOP’s candidate for the 2016 elections.

Romney’s reactivation of his accounts raises several questions. Is he actually going to run, even at this late stage? Is he capable of toppling Donald Trump from his current winning position? If he does win the nomination, could he win an election against current Democrat frontrunner Hillary Clinton?

So many questions, yet so few answers. It does look like the next few months could be some of the most entertaining in United States electoral history. As a Donald Trump nomination looks more and more likely, who knows what other desperate moves the Republican establishment will make to stop him from running in the 2016 Presidential elections.
