Mexican Worker’s Protest Goes Viral As Mexican Flag Adorns New Trump Tower

Construction of yet another Trump Tower is nearing completion in Vancouver, Canada. It is a 68-story hotel that is sleek, and with the most modern architecture and decoration. But in a story that is going viral, a different sort of decoration adorned the building last Saturday morning.

You see, Diego Saul Reyna and a friend took the elevator to the 28th floor, and then had to climb 20 more floors via the stairs. Reyna, a Canadian-Mexican construction worker, then hung a Mexican flag from the tower as a form of protest against the negative and hateful remarks that Donald Trump has made against Mexicans during his presidential campaign. Reyna said that:

“I put a Mexican flag on the roof of the Trump Tower in Vancouver, just to show that he is benefiting from us and that we are working hard on his projects and that we are not all criminals.”

Although the flag was quickly removed, Reyna’s photo has now been shared over 8,000 times. He did not personally work on the building, but was appalled at the disparaging comments that Trump has made against immigrants and decided to act upon it. He commented that:

“Look at that building, look how beautiful it is … and that is a result of a coordination of all the ethnic groups in Canada. I’ve seen every race and every religion working in that building.”

Trump angered many when he referred to undocumented Mexican immigrants as criminals and rapists. He has not commented on the message or photo. The Holborn Group, the Canadian company that owns the Vancouver Trump building, has said it will not comment on United States politics or Reyna’s actions.

Reyna hopes that the attention to his post will send a positive message about Mexican immigrants, and also one of love and hope.
