Donald Rumsfeld Takes To Twitter To Vent About IRS, Twitter Goes Insane

It seems every week we have at least one example of a prominent person (celebrity, public figure, or otherwise) who should permanently have their Twitter rights revoked. It’s become such a cliché to expect some noteworthy person to insert their foot into his, or hers, digital mouth. Today’s nominee is former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

“Rummy,” as his good pal Richard Nixon called him in 1971, took to Twitter on Monday to voice his displeasure with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It seems the 83-year-old former government employee still can’t figure out how to properly file his own returns, and he wants to let the folks at the IRS know that he blames them for it. At least the overly complex tax code.

Rumsfeld wasn’t done there. Just to add to grumpy old man stereotypes, he typed a letter that voiced his concerns, displaying his sarcastic wit to the IRS.

What follows next is a social media storm of spite and scorn for the man credited with being the architect of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq. And hey, he did kind of ask for it.

Of course at least one fellow user had to remind Rummy about those darn WMDs we never found.

While some followers also held on to some eternal hope that someday, Rumsfeld will be compelled to answer for his actions in the Hague.

But fancy hope and pipe dreams aside, Rumsfeld will likely never face any sort of tribunal. Worse yet, he is likely to never show an ounce of remorse for his actions. He is in many ways a kindred spirit with Henry Kissinger. Now at age 92, Kissinger remains defiant when challenged to reflect on actions he recommended during the Nixon administration.

Forget the millions of lives lost due to the illegal bombings of Cambodia and Laos, or the disastrous policies in the Middle East. Some men may never find true reflection and contrition.
