Russian Park Adopted Black Goat As Racist Insult Of President Obama (VIDEO)

Russia’s Primorsky Safari Park made headlines again, but not with a cute viral video of an adopted goat and a tiger. This time, the park’s escapades seem to have crossed the line into racism. The park adopted a black goat with the perfect name – Obama. According to NBC News, it’s an intentional insult of President Barack Obama.

Unconventional Naming Conventions

Naming someone or something after family, friends, or famous people is supposed to show respect, but considering what “goat” means in Russian, borrowing a name to give to a goat is anything but respectful. This is especially true of lending President Obama’s name to this specific goat.

Goat is “козел” in Russian, according to Google Translate, and it means “billy goat,” “blockhead,” “mother fucker,” and “asshole,” among a few other colorful words. According to NBC News, it’s slang for “obtuse, obstinate [sic] and headstrong.”

Russians generally don’t like President Obama, according to the Pew Research Center, so it’s unlikely the Russian farmer named the goat Obama because he respected our president.

All Kidding Aside

Director of Primorsky Safari Park, Dmitry Mezentsev, said that after park employees adopted Obama, they tried to set up a meeting between the “rare, exotic animal,” and Russian President Vladimir Putin, but to no avail. President Putin wouldn’t oblige because he “holds no meetings with goats,” according to NBC News.

Calling Obama the goat a “rare” and “exotic” animal when it’s not is baffling. Is this more than just a subtle joke over word meanings? Possibly, if we consider just how much Russians despite America and our president.

We must also consider the bromance between President Putin and Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee to run for U.S. president, as well as Trump’s openly racist platform.

Together, the conditions make it easy for park employees to express themselves, which itself makes it much more likely that park employees were making a racist reference to President Obama being the first African American in the White House. That’s a bit more than a little disrespectful, to say the least.

Not First Goat Adopted As An Insult

This isn’t the first time Russia’s Primorsky Safari Park insulted a world leader with a goat. The park’s first foray into stardom began when a video of a special bromance between Amur the tiger and Timur the goat that went viral after Amur decided to not eat Timur for lunch.

According to Yahoo U.K. News, Amur and Timur lived together from November 2015 until January 2016. Park employees eventually moved Timur because a tiger can only take so much harassment from a goat.

That’s why Primorsky Safari Park adopted Merkel in January from Russian farmer, Olig Sirota, according to the Daily Mail.

Intending the goat to be Timur’s mate, Sirota said “Merkel is stubborn,” but a good mate for any goat that tamed a tiger. Sirota named the goat after German Chancellor Angela Merkel because she issued sanctions against Russia for meddling in the Ukrainian civil war.

It’s no secret the relationship between Russia and America cooled off a bit for the same reason, but racist jokes like a black goat named Obama have no place in the criticism of world leaders. Unfortunately, Russia’s leader isn’t a good role model in this area, and neither is Trump – who is vying to lead America.

Director Mezentsev documented Obama the goat’s trip to the park and, according to a translation of the description, we also found that Sirota is the same farmer who supplied Obama to the park.
