Oops! Trump Staffer Accidentally Emails Election Attack Strategy Plans To A Journalist

If Donald Trump was as bad at business as he is at hiring competent campaign staffers, he’d probably be penniless and living in a cardboard box right now. Why might that be? Because one of his chief spokespersons emailed a key pillar of Trump’s attack plan against Hillary Clinton to a reporter who works for Politico.

I’m beginning to believe that Trump’s campaign organization is actually just the Keystone Cops in modern-day clothing. Oh, and they don’t know how to operate a computer.

According to Politico, this is how the whole incident took place:

“The email was obtained by POLITICO when Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks, who [Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo] copied on his request to the RNC, accidentally responded instead to Marc Caputo, a POLITICO reporter who is not related to the Republican consultant.”

Specifically, Michael Caputo sent a request asking for a Republican National Committee researcher to “work up information on HRC/Whitewater as soon as possible.” He added that:

“This is for immediate use and for the afternoon talking points process.”

Bottom line: Now the Clinton campaign (along with the rest of the world) knows exactly what attack strategy Trump is planning to use in the weeks ahead. And even if the Trump war room decides not to use this strategy now that it has been revealed, it eliminates a talking point or attack line they had planned to implement. Either way, this is the kind of thing that gets campaign staffers fired.

Adding insult to injury, Hicks didn’t even realize she had sent the email to a reporter for some 20 minutes. And then all she did was send a follow-up email to the Politico reporter in which she wrote:

“Wrong email, obviously. Apologies.”

It’s going to take more than apologies for Hicks to get off the hook for this kind of misstep. Don’t be surprised if she isn’t with the Trump team much longer.
