Donald Trump Urges Sanders Supporters To ‘Get Even With’ Clinton

Apparently, Donald Trump (R-NY) thinks Hillary Clinton’s nomination means he’s going to be HUUUGGE with Bernie Sanders (I-VT) supporters.

Trump has tweeted an invitation to Sanders supporters, but something tells me they’re not going to find it so irresistible.

Even though it appears to be a retweet, it speaks volumes (to me, at least) about Trump’s character. He thinks the only thing Sanders supporters need to know is that they can get revenge on Hillary Clinton and “at least” have a job. There’s no mention of living wages, health care or college tuition – all  things that Sanders has made the foundation of his campaign.

But Trump seems to have thought his attack on Clinton was so appealing to Sanders supporters, Trump tried something similar, less than two hours later. This time, he suggested that Sanders must hate Clinton so much he might encourage his supporters to vote for Trump.

Those tweets came one day after Trump’s far-more measured invitation via his scripted speech earlier this week.

“To all those Bernie Sanders voters who have been left out in the cold by a rigged system of superdelegates, we welcome you with open arms.”

I hate to burst Trump’s bubble (OK, not really) but most Sanders supporters are very, very unlikely to vote for Trump. Bill Scher waded deeply into the weeds to explain why in a recent Politico article. But here’s the takeaway:

“While Clinton may have struggled to win millennials—particularly white working class millennials—in the primary against Sanders, they appear ready to forgive. Harvard’s Institute of Politics, which specializes in surveying young voters, found Clinton trounces Trump 61 percent to 25 percent with voters under 30 years of age, a bigger margin than Obama had over Romney.

The problem for Trump is that the few areas of ideological overlap don’t come close to outweighing the long list of issues where Sanders and Trump are practically opposites.”

But dream on, Donald.
