7 Quotes From The Declaration That Make Conservative Heads Explode (VIDEO)

Happy Birthday to the Declaration of Independence.

Today seemed like a good day to reread the famous document. I wanted to really think about the meaning of what the writers were trying to express.

Guess what?

I think there’s a lot in there that must make conservatives crazy. Here are a few examples:

1) “[…]all men are created equal[…]”

Including Muslims, gays, transgender people, Mexicans, and even liberals.

2) “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Wow. So the Founding Fathers said that governments are vital to protecting the rights of the people. Like protecting the rights of gay people to buy wedding cakes, I guess. Not very conservative.

3) “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes.”  

Maybe Texas should reconsider seceding just because they don’t like Obama?

Those quotes were just from the preamble. That was where the writers wanted to explain what they were up to. Now we get to the list of the King’s many crimes against the Colonies.

4) “He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.” 

Is it just me, or does that sound a whole lot like the Republicans in Congress? Not allowing any laws to be passed, no matter how important? Yup. Sounds familiar.

5) “He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.”  

I suppose Paul Ryan didn’t exactly “dissolve” the House, but he sent them all home on vacation so they wouldn’t have to vote on a gun law.

6) “He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither,”  

OK, this is pretty clear. No border walls, folks!

7) “He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected;” 

Well, holy Supreme Court nomination.

Conservative Republicans, they could have been writing about you!
