Sanders Will Endorse Clinton Soon, Probably Early Next Week

Ever since Hillary Clinton became the presumptive Democratic nominee, many party members have been wondering and even asking when her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, will officially disband his campaign and endorse her. During a meeting yesterday with members of the House Democratic caucus, it was even reported that some caucus members booed Sanders when he refused to set a timeline for his endorsement.

But last night on “All In With Chris Hayes,” Sanders confirmed that he will indeed endorse Clinton very soon, and sources in both campaigns say that could come as soon as next Tuesday. Host Chris Hayes directly asked Sanders this question:

“You’re not denying the report that there are talks about a possible endorsement?”

To that, Sanders replied:

“That’s correct.”

Senator Sanders was also complimentary of the former Secretary of State for the proposal she made Wednesday which would greatly reduce the cost of college tuition for American students whose families make less than $125,000 a year. Sanders remarked on the plan:

“I thank Secretary Clinton for introducing this proposal, which, in my view, if implemented, will have a very profound impact on the future of our country. This is a pretty good step forward.”

And Sanders added that he and Clinton will be collaborating on one single goal: Defeating Donald Trump soundly in November:

“We’re working on some other ideas, and I think at the end of the day, there is going to be a coming together, and we’re going to go forward together and not only defeat Trump, but defeat him badly.”

There are also tentative reports that the two Democratic candidates will be meeting next week in New Hampshire, which is reminiscent of the 2008 endorsement of Barack Obama by Clinton in Unity, New Hampshire.

So while some Sanders supporters continue to insist that the upcoming Democratic convention in Philadelphia will be contested, it seems increasingly unlikely that Sanders himself will sign on to such a plan. Stay tuned.
