During this entire campaign, we have all been frightened of the possibility of Donald Trump (R-NY) becoming president. At first, we thought this was a joke. Last year, we never thought that Trump’s campaign would actually go anywhere. Somehow, people are eating up his racist, hateful, rhetoric. I have a few reasons why these people are ignorant.
1. He lies all the time!
He doesn’t even try to sound factual. He doesn’t cite studies or sources for any claim he makes. He just says things like, “I’ve been hearing…” or “They say…” His supporters contend that he is “telling it like it is.” But what exactly has he lied about…besides everything? I have a few examples for you:
He said that the unemployment rate is 42 percent; the rate is actually 4.9 percent. About his border wall, he just keeps throwing numbers around for how much it will cost. Is it $8 billion? Is it $15 billion? A more reasonable number would be around $25 billion.
2. They love his racism and hateful rhetoric.
Donald Trump has been spewing hate during his entire campaign. From his initial announcement of running for president, he has been saying racist things. He opened his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
He has been constantly sexist and misogynistic during the whole campaign as well. Hillary Clinton summed it up well when she said:
“He makes a habit of insulting women. He seems to have something about women.”
3. They never question him.
They just jump on the hate bandwagon and regurgitate his hateful speeches. It is just exposing how ignorant they are. Around 20 percent of his supporters think freeing the slaves was a bad idea. Donald Trump once said that he could shoot someone on the street and not lose any votes.
4. He treats them like they are ignorant.
He gives people little nicknames: “Lyin’ Ted,” “Crooked Hillary,” “Lil Marco.” It is totally condescending to his supporters. It is like giving a nickname to a new puppy. He belittled a war veteran and teased a disabled reporter. A study was done that showed Trump supporters really are ignorant and uneducated.
