Pat McCrory Plays The Victim Over HB2, Whines About NBA (VIDEO)

Republican Governor Pat McCrory of North Carolina had a meltdown this week after it was announced that the NBA was pulling its 2017 All-Star Game out of North Carolina. His whining has been captured on video forever. It is not a pretty sight to watch what a grown man looks like when he whines like a toddler about the consequences of his own childish actions.

ThinkProgress has reported that the NBA has pulled out of the Tar Heel State for the week-long All-Star game festivities. The event would have brought in an estimated $100 million in revenue for Charlotte, the host city, but it seems like McCrory would rather have a discriminatory bathroom bill than business. That’s solid politics, right?

The sports world doesn’t think so. A statement on the NBA’s website outlines why the organization made the move. The reason? The NBA isn’t happy with HB2. In their words:

“Our week-long schedule of All-Star events and activities is intended to be a global celebration of basketball, our league, and the values for which we stand, and to bring together all members of the NBA community — current and former players, league and team officials, business partners, and fans. While we recognize that the NBA cannot choose the law in every city, state, and country in which we do business, we do not believe we can successfully host our All-Star festivities in Charlotte in the climate created by HB2.”

The HB2 bill is best known as the Bathroom Bill because McCrory and his fellow Republicans in the North Carolina Congress enacted it to get rid of protections for the LGBTQ community. They did this out of spite because the city of Charlotte, where McCrory served as mayor for 14 years, had the gall to set up the very protections HB2 stripped away.

This is what Gov. McCrory thinks is important, people. The HB2 law is the only one of its kind in the country, but if the governor has his way and others follow his lead, it won’t be the last.

If you’ll recall, we’ve discussed the HB2 bill, which is formally known as the House Bill 2, before. As late as last month, Democrats were trying to amend the bill to provide some protections for the LGBTQ community, particularly the transgender community. Unfortunately, that went nowhere, and now North Carolina can only sit back and watch as almost every major entertainment event that was scheduled to take place in their state backs out.

While the governor and his Republican henchmen are busy defending the law, the sports and entertainment world are backing away. Musicians are canceling concerts in the state in droves. Now there’s even talk of the NCAA following the NBA, with local reports stating that the organization has already released questionnaires to potential host cities that may replace North Carolina for future events.

So what does McCrory have to say about all of this? His office released a statement today that in part read:

“The sports and entertainment elite, Attorney General Roy Cooper and the liberal media have for months misrepresented our laws and maligned the people of North Carolina simply because most people believe boys and girls should be able to use school bathrooms, locker rooms and showers without the opposite sex present.”

But, wait, it gets better.

Pat McCrory is such a victim-blamer that in an interview with CBS North Carolina, the governor refused to back down from HB2. He blasted the NBA, calling the move “PC B.S.” and claiming that the NBA is using the law as a “litmus test.” I’m still not sure what litmus test the governor is talking about, but I’m reasonably sure that this goes back to McCrory’s frequent attacks on the Left side of the political spectrum.

The best quote from Pat McCrory will have to be when he spoke to WFAE and actually referenced Orwell. I’m serious about this. He warned of:

“An Orwellian type of situation in our country in which the thought police are purging anyone who disagrees with their particular political opinion.”

I also want to remind all of you that Pat McCrory is the first Republican Governor of North Carolina since 1993. And he’s up for reelection this year, with Attorney General Ray Cooper (D-NC) having massive support for being against the HB2 bill.

Here’s hoping that the McCrory reign over the state will soon be over.
