The Obamas Are Teaching Sasha Work Ethics — Here’s Where She’s Working

15-year-old First Daughter Sasha Obama is learning the value of a dollar the old-fashioned way. The teen has been logging hours at her new summer job at Nancy’s, a seafood restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard.

Sasha, who uses her full name of Natasha while working, is learning to run the cash register, bus tables, and prep the restaurant before it opens. The gig started this week and will reportedly run until her family takes their annual vacation to the area starting Saturday.

Even if the job is short-lived, it will no doubt prove to be a valuable learning experience for the young teen who has spent the last eight years living in the White House.

Sasha is joined by six Secret Service agents for each shift. The Boston Herald reported that the agents sat outside the restaurant on Tuesday in a Suburban SUV and on benches. After her shift, Sasha and a co-worker brought a tray of drinks to the security contingent before they left.

Her shifts start early in the day and end at 11:30 a.m., shortly after the restaurant opens for lunch. It is also reported that the pay is around $12 to $15 an hour, plus tips.

The Obama’s are long-time fans of Nancy’s and eat there during their vacations. The family is also said to be friends with the owners.

A Normal Life For The Obama Daughters

In their eight years as the First Family, both Sasha and sister Malia have stayed fairly grounded. After all, the girls just attended their first state dinner in March. Michelle Obama told “Entertainment Tonight” she and President Barack Obama try to normalize their daughters’ lives as much as possible.

During the Democratic National Convention, Michelle gave some insight on raising their daughters with a never-ending spotlight on them:

“I will never forget that winter morning as I watched our girls, just seven and 10 years old, pile into those black SUVs with all those big men with guns, and I saw their little faces pressed up against the window, and the only thing I could think was, ‘What have we done?’

“At that moment, I realized that our time in the White House would form the foundation for who they would become, and how well we manage this experience could truly make or break them.”

President Obama is one of the most powerful people on this planet. He could’ve gotten any number of glamorous jobs for his daughter, but instead she’s at a restaurant that sells fish. Props to the First Family.
