WATCH: Politician Says This Ancient Myth Proves Climate Change Is A Hoax… WTF? (VIDEO)

A politician in Ireland is making global news for being spectacularly stupid. According to the Irish newspaper the Independent, a legislator named Danny Healy-Rae has been publicly pronouncing his decidedly unscientific claim that climate change isn’t real.

His “proof?” Noah’s Ark.

Yes, he cites the mythical story of Noah’s Ark as one of the “facts” supporting his position.

While this must certainly make creationists like Ken Ham beam with admiration, most of Ireland seems to be reacting with a collective facepalm. A quick skim of the comments accompanying the piece provide both sympathy and comedy!
A user going by the name “thebigdog” says:

“As if we are not enough of a laughing stock already.”

Another user named “SadPotato” says:

“I still can’t believe that this guy is real, that people actually voted for the idiot.”

Don’t feel too bad “thebigdog” and “SadPotato,” these are sentiments expressed by educated Texans nearly every single day.

The Independent reports Healy-Rae as saying:

“I’m basing my views on facts. The facts are there and history proves it. We had the Ice Age. We had Noah’s Ark. We had all those stories. We’ve proof of the Famine in 1740, which was caused by two years of incessant rain.”

Let’s review.

Yes there have been Ice Ages. Yes there have been Irish famines. But no one with a healthy brain and the ability to read believes that the all-powerful creator of the universe drowned nearly every single living thing on the planet in a global flood around 4,000 years ago.

The Independent reports that:

“Mr Healy-Rae has been adamant in his view that only God can control the weather and came under fire when he denied climate change existed…and in an interview with ‘Hot Press’ magazine, the Kerry TD has insisted the Old Testament story of God telling Noah to build an ark so he could be spared from apocalyptic floods backs up his claim.”

It’s as if these people don’t know they are being recorded.

Here’s a video of Mr. Healy-Rae proving his extraordinary ignorance of science:

R.L. Paine is a writer, activist, and science lover. We all need to find a bit more Hitch in ourselves. “Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the 'transcendent' and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself...Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence...” - Christopher Hitchens
