‘A Quarantine Sign At The End Of Our Driveway’ — Woman SLAMS Anti-Vaxxers With Personal Polio Story (VIDEOS)

We have been debating about vaccines a lot over the last few years. People who are against the vaccines claim that they cause autism. Studies have proven that this is false, but people are still trying to fight against getting their children vaccinated.

The Jimmy Kimmel Show had a perfect message for the anti-vaxxer movement:

Polio survivor, Judith Shaw Beatty, was diagnosed in 1949. During that year, there were 42,000 cases of polio and 2,720 deaths.

About 72 percent of people with polio have no symptoms. Beatty’s infection turned into paralytic poliomyelitis, which happens in about one percent of cases.

She was immobilized from the neck down at six-years-old. It began one day when she was playing with her friends and she developed a bad headache. The next day, her legs were shaking so badly that she couldn’t stand up and her arms twitched. She was taken to the hospital and put in an iron lung.

They ended up with a quarantine sign in the driveway. She said that many people shunned her family because of it.

She was released in January of 1950, five months after the initial diagnosis. Her left leg didn’t recover fully so she had to wear a brace. The next year, she had her first surgery to fuse her ankle.

She has published her story online before and she is an activist for vaccines. The anti-vaxxers sent her some very mean messages. She said:

“The lack of compassion expressed by these people is startling. I’ve never interacted with a vaccine refuser who cared one way or the other about my life as a polio survivor. They don’t want to hear about it because I’m an inconvenient truth, just like all the other polio survivors I know. On Facebook, I’m lectured and attacked by arrogant people who claim they know a lot more than I do about polio.”‘

This story shows the reason why we need vaccines. No one should have to die from preventable diseases.

Here is another story from a polio survivor:
