Arseholes At Odds: Gov. Rick Snyder Says Trump’s Dismal View Of Michigan Is ‘Not Accurate’ (VIDEO)

Michigan Republican Gov. Rick Snyder is shaking his head at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, giving us another reason to believe everything Trump says needs to be run through a fact-checker.

Gov. Snyder called Trump’s comments inaccurate on Friday, after he claimed that Michigan’s manufacturing industry was a disaster.

Trump’s exact words from his speech in Lansing last week:

“Now you have to understand the Michigan manufacturing sector is a disaster. It’s a disaster … It’s like taking candy away from a baby, and many people in this audience right now that think you have jobs, you’re going to find out very soon that your company is leaving for Mexico or some other place, and you’re not going to have your job very long.”

But Gov. Snyder was quick to point out the flaws spewing from Trump’s mouth, as they normally do:

“No, factually that’s not accurate … Michigan’s No. 1 in the creation of manufacturing jobs over the last few years, and we’ve got a thriving manufacturing sector, and I’m proud of it … Michigan’s a key manufacturing hub — not just in this country but in the world — and we should be proud of it.”

Economic Upswing

While it’s true that the state suffered greatly during the Great Recession, Michigan is on the upswing.

Its number of manufacturing jobs jumped from 438,500 in 2009 to about 604,200 as of July this year. The last time there were over 600,000 manufacturing jobs in Michigan was in 2007.

Auto jobs have been rising as well, with 63,000 created since 2009.

Even more reassuring is the outlook for Michigan’s economic future. The Great Lake State had lower unemployment rates than the nation as a whole in 2015, and is projected to keep falling in the next couple years, according to a University of Michigan forecast.

The forecast also predicts that Michigan will create 61,100 jobs in 2016, and 64,800 in 2017. Additionally, the unemployment rate is expected to drop to 4.8 percent this year.

Auto sales are projected to soar to at least 18 million a year in the U.S. for the next two years. With lower gas prices, automakers are likely to see a rise in SUV and truck sales.

If this is how Trump defines the word “disaster,” he will be in for a major shock if he ever gets the chance to sit in the Oval Office.

The entire country was hurt by the recession – some places more than others. Michigan is making a very reasonable comeback. If a businessman can’t see that, nor get his facts straight, can we really trust him to run the country?

Gov. Snyder Remains Uncommitted

Gov. Snyder, who has refused to make any endorsements this presidential race, further pushed his point:

“As I said, I’m not really getting involved in the presidential race. My focus is the state House, in particular. And I would like to see the majority maintained there because of all of the great progress in Michigan over the last few years. Let’s keep it up and go forward even faster.”
