Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump doesn’t just belittle women he finds unattractive, he wants them fired. So says a new Los Angeles Times exposé about employer misconduct at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Trump has tried to defend himself from accusations he belittled former Miss Universe, Alicia Machado, for gaining weight by saying he was only trying to save her job. But the L.A. Times documents quite a different pattern of behavior at Trump’s club in Rancho Palos Verdes:
“When Trump did visit, the club’s managers went on alert. They scheduled the young, thin, pretty women on staff to work the clubhouse restaurant — because when Trump saw less-attractive women working at his club, according to court records, he wanted them fired.
‘I had witnessed Donald Trump tell managers many times while he was visiting the club that restaurant hostesses were ‘not pretty enough’ and that they should be fired and replaced with more attractive women,’ Hayley Strozier, who was director of catering at the club until 2008, said in a sworn declaration.”
Strozier also claimed she was pressured more than once to fire an overweight but talented employee because Trump didn’t want them there, according to the paper.
The L.A. Times cited other reports that Trump and his managers placed looks over competence.
“[Lucy] Messerschmidt, the employee who said she was fired in retaliation for complaining about age discrimination, said in 2008 that one of her managers, Brian Wolbers, changed her schedule to give her time off during one of Trump’s visits because Trump ‘likes to see fresh faces’ and ‘young girls.'”
“‘I’ve had such an amazing relationship with women in business,’ he said. ‘They are amazing executives. They are killers … I have many executives that are women. They are doing a phenomenal job. I pay them a tremendous amount of money. They make money for me.'”
He just forgot to mention that he only thinks women are amazing when they look good.
But if Trump cares so much about looks, maybe he should do a little something with his own. Just saying.
