Obama Trolls Trump, Explains Why You Can’t Run U.S. Like A Startup (VIDEO)

President Barack Obama is having some fun as he enters the last days of his Presidency. He is not holding back when it comes to addressing the craziness of the current election season.

For example, in a speech given to the White House Frontiers Conference in Pittsburg, Obama addressed the mistaken idea that the government can be run like a profit based business.

He told the tech conference attendees that it’s misguided to believe that all we have to do is deconstruct our government and set it up more efficiently, like a good tech startup.

Although he did not mention Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by name, Obama told the assembly:

“The final thing I’ll say is that government will never run the way Silicon Valley run because, by definition, democracy is messy. This is a big, diverse country with a lot of interests and a lot of disparate points of view. And part of government’s job, by the way, is dealing with problems that nobody else wants to deal with.”

Clearly referring to the overly simplistic approach that Trump often touts, the President went on to say that it is the job of the government to focus on more than the bottom line. Although people like the bombastic billionaire believe that they can easily “fix” our “broken” system, the man who has run the country for the past eight years knows that the job is far more complex.

“So sometimes I talk to CEOs, they come in and they start telling me about leadership, and here’s how we do things. And I say, well, if all I was doing was making a widget or producing an app, and I didn’t have to worry about whether poor people could afford the widget, or I didn’t have to worry about whether the app had some unintended consequences – setting aside my Syria and Yemen portfolio – then I think those suggestions are terrific.”

The President showed his usual grace and wit, poking fun at himself a bit. Even so, he managed to point out that running a country is not about production or profit. In the key part of the conference speech, he reminded his listeners that it is the sacred duty of the government to take care of its veterans and its disabled, even though that care might impact the bottom line.

We are surely going to miss President Barack Obama. It is vital that we have a leader who understands that leading a country is vastly different from leading a Silicon Valley startup.
