Larry Klayman has a long history of conspiracy theories and frivolous lawsuits (no, really – the man sued his own mother). He has either bought into or started just about every nutjob smear campaign against not only former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, but he was also part of the birther movement against President Obama. He started, and then sued, Judicial Watch. Now, his new group, the conservative Freedom Watch, is planning on challenging the recounts in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
‘They Need To Be Dead And Buried, Legally’
Speaking to NewsMax TV (an offshoot of the right-wing website of the same name), Klayman said:
“They need to be dead and buried, legally, because they’re going to come back like the Wicked Witch. A house needs to be dropped on her right now.”
I find myself wondering what the Republicans are so scared of here. President-elect Donald Trump went on a Twitter rampage on Sunday, railing against the very idea of a recount. Kellyanne Conway, his former campaign manager and now one of his top aides, suggested that Hillary Clinton should feel privileged that Trump is not prosecuting her, but that they might reconsider that in the face of a recount (despite the fact that Trump has no legal standing to prosecute Clinton).
And now we have Klayman, that frivolous gadfly of litigiousness, threatening action against a perfectly legal recount. Klayman also contends in this interview, as he has in the past, that Al Gore tried to “steal the election” in 2000. Of course, we now know that Gore would have won Florida, and thus the election, had the recount there been allowed to continue. Klayman’s former group, Judicial Watch, had a hand in intervening in that recount, by the way.
If the Republicans truly believe that Trump won the election fair and square, and that a recount will not change things, then why not just let it happen? Why all the fuss?
Klayman says his new group, Freedom Watch, is going to:
“…Intervene in these recounts to make sure they’re done fairly and properly…”
Of course, the problem here is that Klayman is not looking for fairness. He’s not impartial. In his own words, he wants the Clintons “dead and buried, legally.”
This is not someone who should be anywhere near a recount.
