What is it about Louisiana politicians with “Duke” in their names that makes them bigoted a**holes? While we all have likely heard of KKK nut case David Duke, you may not have heard of his little bigoted protégé, Michael ‘Duke’ Lowrie. Let me introduce you.
Duke Lowrie is a retired paramedic who is running as a Republican for the Louisiana House of Representatives. And while David Duke has an irrational hatred of African Americans, the other Louisiana “dookie” has an irrational fear of Muslims. So much so that Duke Lowrie has made as a central part of his campaign, a bizarre idea that it is the patriotic duty of all Americans to not spend money at businesses that might benefit Muslims in any way.
Under the guise of not being “politically correct,” Lowrie used his Facebook page in 2015 to crow about his blatant bigotry. He said:
“There are many who worship, if you call it that, islam [sic] here among us. I do not believe they deserve the peace of our culture or the continued fruits of our society while following this religion. I for one will no longer knowingly go to or do business with any establishment that has someone who I know is a follower of islam [sic] working there.”

What a charmer this guy must be! Now as a candidate for public office, he is doubling down on the statements he made on his Facebook post. And of course he is giving President-elect Donald Trump some of the credit for unleashing his overt bigotry.
Lowrie told the Shreveport Times late last week that:
“We are a Christian nation. The threat of Islamic terrorism is real. Too many times, politicians are sometimes so afraid to speak the truth because of the PC culture in which we live. I’ll call it how I see it. We must tackle Islamic extremism head on. I believe President Trump will do that.”
Where to begin?
We are most certainly not a Christian nation. We are a secular nation with a large number of people who practice Christianity. We also have a first amendment which guarantees that both Muslims and Christians are allowed to practice the peaceful components of their religions without government interference.
In the spirit of not being politically correct, join me as we all make fun of this bigoted loser and drive him back under the rock from which he crawled.
