New Petition: We Still Want To See Donald Trump’s Tax Returns

It’s only been a day since Donald Trump was officially inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. It didn’t take that long for a White House petition demanding that he release his full tax returns to be examined. Currently, the petition’s web page is the second most popular government website, but many visitors are citing difficulties signing the petition.

The petition has reached the required minimum in less than 24 hours, currently showing that there are more than 150,451 people who have signed the petition.

In the past 24 hours, the web form has started to behave like web pages on the official White House website, where pages dedicated to LGBT, civil, and climate rights have been stripped or altogether removed.

Who Filed The Petition Demanding Trump’s Tax Returns?

A person identified as “A.D.” filed the petition, taking advantage of the Open Government Initiative Project that was introduced by former President Barack Obama’s administration. This platform is a direct line of communication between the White House and the will of the people, with more than 500,000 petitions being signed and introduced with varying levels of success. The project requires that any particular request has at least 100,000 signatures before the White House officially responds. Currently, there are more than 150,451 people who have signed the petition.

Why Is Examining the President’s Tax Returns so Important?

At the surface, the tax returns will enable citizens to see how the president uses his income, donates to charity, or to further causes that may be of interest to citizens. Dissecting tax returns will also be able to expose any conflict of interest or financial ties that the president may have with governmental facilities or peripheral industries.

Petition May Not Spur Action

This initiative was introduced by President Obama’s administration, with the continuation of this tradition being up to the incoming team. Currently, the White House, President Trump, or his administration has not responded to the petition.

They may never respond. They may just decide that, like the rest of the programs started during the Obama administration, petitioning your government shouldn’t be something they should be allowing. As Trump goes to great lengths to hide from the press, accuse the press of lying, and spread his continuous lies, we aren’t expecting him to have much patience or understanding hen it comes to actually listening to the people.

Will Trump ever expose his financial assets to the American people?
