The ‘Make America White Again Wall’ Is A Budgeting Nightmare (TWEETS/VIDEO)

President Donald Trump centered his campaign around building a big wall along the Mexican border. Construction of that wall isn’t just an added expense, though.

It’s a financial nightmare.

Billions of Dollars

As soon as Trump sat down at the bigly desk within the Oval Office, he signed Executive Order after Executive Order until he was exhausted and got back to tweeting. One of those orders was to hire thousands of agents for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

He specifically demanded 5,000 Border Patrol agents and 10,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE). Neither of those positions is volunteer work, by the way.

Their salaries will total at least a billion dollars and that doesn’t even include their training, offices and vehicles. Additional training will mean bigger academies, which will also cost a pretty penny.

There’s also the price of the wall itself: $20 billion.

Unfunded Mandates

All of these costs are unfunded mandates, which are defined as:

“…a statute or regulation that requires a state or local government to perform certain actions, with no money provided for fulfilling the requirements.”

In other words, the DHS lacks the necessary funds to cover all of these expenses. For all of the complaining Trump did about the economy he inherited from the previous administration, he apparently sees no problem spending money that doesn’t exist.

The former acting director of ICE, John Sandweg, said:

“It’s billions and billions and billions of dollars. It’s 100 percent not feasible under the current funding levels.”

Of course, Trump tried to squash concerns over the cost of the wall by saying Mexico will pay for it:

President Enrique Pena Nieto declined the invitation to pay for such a wall:

So there’s only one other way to pay for it, and Trump supporters won’t be happy:

Pointless

Before his minions say they’ll gladly pay to keep America white, let’s look to see if this plan will even be effective. Especially since Trump has said all he really wanted to do is keep the bad ones out.

In a memo posted to the National Border Patrol Council’s website, they actually suggest easing up on the use of polygraph tests. If you’re a cop or member of the military, they’ll gladly check you out on the express lane.

Many applicants have been caught trafficking drugs.

There’s also Trump’s plan to get rid of the “catch and release” program. He’s planning on keeping them until they can officially be deported, but agents already arrest more than they can detain because of limited space. This means they’ll release and simply give them an order for immigration court.

Over half a million immigration cases are already backlogged due to a shortage of judges. Simply put, this plan will not work.

So congratulations, Trumpers. Instead of pushing for immigration reform you’d much rather spend more of your own money on trying to Make America White Again.
