The Ides Of March 2017 Just Took A Giant Bite Out Of Trump’s Fat As*

Today is indeed the first day of Spring, but it’s also five days after what the ancient Romans referred to as the Ides of March. Julius Ceasar, you probably recall, was assassinated on the Ides of March, and in a very real way, the House Intelligence Committee hearing on the Trump-Russia connection could wind up being a day we look back on and realize was the beginning of the end for this head of state and the entire administration.

FBI Director James Comey kicked off the hearing Monday, and was asked if he had any evidence whatsoever of Trump’s specious claim that former President Barack Obama had wiretapped him at Trump Tower. Comey responded that regarding the bizarre tweets Trump sent out alleging surveillance by Obama:

“I have no information that supports those tweets.”

In other words, Trump lied, just as he’s done for years now. Remember his claims that Obama wasn’t an American citizen? A lie. Or how about him saying he would release his tax returns? Also a lie. He just stacks one lie atop another one like some kind of personal game of Jenga that gravity dictates must eventually come tumbling down.

Comey also confirmed that despite what the Trump administration says of having no ties to Russia, the FBI is investigating that very issue, telling the committee:

“I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. That includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”

As soon as those words left Comey’s mouth, it’s safe to assume Trump got a knot in his stomach and a dull ache in his skull. And it’s also highly likely that the office of the White House counsel began working overtime.

So yes, it’s the first day of Spring, and life is beginning anew in nature, but for Donald Trump and those around him, March 20, 2017 may eventually prove to be the day the world came crashing down.
