Trump Hires A Salesman With NO Military Background To Run The Draft He Wants Back (VIDEO)

President Donald Trump did not receive much support early on in his campaign, and has therefore sought to reward those early backers with some prime government positions. Trump’s latest should frighten everyone: a former businessman, state Senator, and environmental executive named Don Benton.

Benton has been tapped to run the Selective Service System, which runs the military draft in the United States. One thing Benton does not have on his resume, just like President Trump: military service.

According to the Huffington Post, Benton is the first director in the history of the Selective Service to have never served in the military.

Similar to the missing sections of Benton’s resume, the White House press release announcing the nomination also leaves out any mention of the military or what the Selective Service System does. Instead, it highlights Benton’s business and sales acumen (of which the Huffington Post reports it can find zero evidence), as well as his environmental service, stating:

“Mr. Benton served as the Director of the Clark County Environmental Services Department from 2013 to 2016. During his tenure he reduced the cost of removing hazardous waste from the waste stream while doubling citizen participation and tripling the tonnage of hazardous waste removed. Mr. Benton was also responsible for Clark County certifying more Green Schools than in any other county in Washington State. Mr. Benton also served as the White House Senior Advisor to the EPA during transition.”

If Benton has all this environmental experience, why is he not working with the Environmental Protection Agency? Apparently, that was originally the plan, but Scott Pruitt, Trump’s EPA administrator, hates Benton.

The Washington Post reports:

“Pruitt is bristling at the presence of former Washington state senator Don Benton, who ran the president’s Washington state campaign and is now the EPA’s senior White House adviser, said two senior administration officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters. These officials said Benton piped up so frequently during policy discussions that he had been disinvited from many of them. One of the officials described the situation as akin to an episode of the HBO comedy series ‘Veep.'”

To recap: the man in charge of our military draft has zero military experience and is so despised by colleagues that they stopped inviting him to meetings even though he was a senior adviser. The Huffington Post also reports that Benton once fired his entire committee while acting as Washington state GOP chairman as he was being investigated for mishandling party funds. He then changed the locks on party headquarters before being voted out. On another occasion, he called another senator:

“A trashy, trampy-mouthed little girl.”

He then followed the senator around the room, chanting:

“You are weird and … weird! Weird, weird, weird. Just so weird!”

This appointment comes mere days after launching military strikes on Syria and Afghanistan, as well as posturing against a nuclear-armed enemy in North Korea. But I’m sure we’ll be fine.

Here’s Benton arguing to remove taxpayer protection laws while he was a Washington Senator:
