It turns out no one likes Trumpcare, not even Republicans and they are letting their ‘leaders’ know about it. It seems there are not many people on any side of politics that like the new health bill. An article in Bloomberg made the observation:
“Nonpartisan political experts are saying the vote could endanger the Republicans’ House majority, and the initial polls indicate little support for the bill.”
It is not just that the new healthcare plan has little support. The new plan (that would kick millions off of healthcare and now includes some very unfair pre-existing conditions) is openly disliked. While many GOP leaders are running away from their constituents to avoid their wrath, some are facing them. Only to find they are far from happy with the new bill.
On the video below, a voter confronts Republican Jeff Denham with her situation. She explains to him how difficult the system is. Her story involves her husband, who requires high-risk care and she has found covering his insurance would cost more than their income. She put it beautifully with this remark:
“No part of this is OK!… I have really serious concerns.”
Denham then says he would like her to talk him through it. The visually upset woman then says she has emailed him and called his office several times, only to be ignored. During the encounter, it is obvious that she knows more about healthcare than he does.
It is also apparent that the crowd of people who have confronted Denham all feel the same. He is shamed into agreeing to a sit down meeting with this lady. It is hard to imagine Republicans ducking and weaving all the way to the next election. These are real people that they have just voted to deny care for, real people who have to make ends meet and want to stay alive at the same time.
There are many examples of the Republican-on-Republican confrontations going on at the moment and the GOP leaders are finding out fast that people don’t like their healthcare being messed with.
