This weekend, London was faced with multiple terror attacks. John Oliver was not happy about the American coverage of the events as he talked about on his show Last Week Tonight. The headlines said things like “London is reeling.”
Oliver, of course, sent out his thoughts to everyone involved. However, he slammed the American headlines of London “under siege” or “reeling.” He said that Britain will not be brought to his knees by three “monumental assholes.”
Oliver said:
“OK, here’s the thing: For the record, in no way is Britain ‘under siege’.”
“Is it upset? Yes. Is it p***** off? Oh, you f****** bet it’s p***** off. But to say it’s ‘under siege’ and that its people are ‘reeling’ is to imply that it’s somehow weak enough to be brought to its knees by three monumental a*******. And that, as an idea, is insulting.”
He commented on the viral footage of someone being evacuated while holding a beer. He said:
“Honestly, it was an uplifting demonstration of quintessentially British defiance because the British people are never going to let terror change their way of life.”
