Yet another name has popped up in the investigation into Russian interference in last week’s election. This time it is Brad Parscale, the digital media director for President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.
The House Russia investigators are planning to call Parscale as they begin scheduling witnesses to uncover any possible connections between the Trump operation and Russian operatives.
The timing of the news is interesting considering that news just broke that federal investigators are digging into Trump advisor/son-in-law Jared Kushner’s involvement in role overseeing Trump’s data operation.
Parscale played a big role for the Trump campaign during the election, directing online spending and voter targeting with the use of a highly sophisticated data bank built by the Republican National Committee.
He was originally employed by then future President in 2015, a few months before Trump announced his candidacy.
Questions for Parscale may center around the prevalence of fake news that supported Trump leading up to the election. It was targeted at specific states that ultimately flipped from blue to red and helped win Trump the presidency.
Top Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee Mark Warner said:
“There have been reports that their ability to target this information, some reports at least saying that in the last week of the campaign in certain precincts in Wisconsin and Michigan and Pennsylvania there was so much misinformation coming talking about Hillary Clinton’s illnesses or Hillary Clinton stealing money from the State Department or other. It completely blanked out any of the back and forth that was actually going on in the campaign… One of the things that seems curious is would the Russians on their own have that level of sophisticated knowledge about the American political system, if they didn’t at least get some advice from someone in America?”
Did they? And if they did, who was the person that helped them out? While Parscale may not be the smoking gun, he’s a good place to start.
