Spanish Fort High School in Alabama has put some very controversial books on its Advanced Placement summer reading list. The book is just chock full of right-wing propaganda.
Some of the book titles are:
- Liberalism is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions by Michael Savage
- The Political Zoo by Michael Savage
- The Enemy Within by Michael Savage
- Trickle-Up Poverty: Stopping Obama’s Attack on Our Borders, Economy and Security by Michael Savage

This is for an AP Government class, but still. It should feature more neutral political writers. Teen Vogue reports:
“Given the tumultuous political climate, it’s more important than ever to get a non-partisan education on everything — especially our very own government, its history and its schema — to ensure today’s students garner all the knowledge they need to become tomorrow’s world leaders. (At least you’d think, right?) Well, according to a tweet sent out by a young activist, Rachel Gonzalez, Spanish Fort High School issued their AP Government summer reading list which is hardly non-partisan, rather, it’s full of one-sided papers, books, and essays by conservative writers — some of which directly attack those with liberal viewpoints.”
The tweet with this list has gone viral, and it has since been recalled from the school. The statement from the school board reads:
“Mr. Ponder’s reading list that is going around on social media has not been endorsed by the school system. The list has been removed by the teacher. Baldwin County Public Schools has a process to vet and approve reading lists so that a variety of sources are used. I expect all employees to follow our processes, procedures, and policies.”
None of these books have any place in public schools. Unfortunately, it is Alabama, so they will probably get away with it.
